Acle Bridge Competition

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

In May 2018, NC Architecture partnered with local engineering firm DYSE, to prepare a competition entry for a National Park & Education Centre on the Norfolk Broads. Our concept was to use local traditional wooden boat building techniques and local trades people, to create striking structures, that would reflect both the character and history of the area. We also wanted to ensure that all materials, such as the lathes, thatch and timber, could be sourced locally, to further boost the ecological credentials of the project. The proposals comprised of eight conical 'huts', which are interconnected by a timber walkway, lifting the ground floor of the proposals above the flood plain. This was a very exciting project and a great opportunity for us to flex some creative muscle and apply some lateral thinking.

Tunnage Square, Liverpool

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

Tunnage Square is a luxury 5-storey aparthotel development along Duke Street, Liverpool. Soon after Planning Permission was granted, we undertook detailed design, which enabled construction to commence in Summer 2016. The development comprises 2 x retail units at ground and 7 x serviced aparthotel units on upper floors. Duke Street has become a prime area for regeneration in recent years and the addition of this aparthotel on an empty piece of land that was formerly a disused square, demonstrates a viable use of land. On completion, the development will offer desirable accommodation set close to local amenities, including a variety of bars and restaurants. The site lies within the Ropewalks regeneration zone in Liverpool City Centre and is within walking distance to Liverpool One Shopping Centre and Liverpool Maritime Docks.

Among the alterations will be roof alterations to form a lightweight zinc-clad extension, which will create a modern contemporary appearance and will complement the existing brick facade. The existing brick facade will be cleaned and repaired / made good where required, to retain its original character.
